Keeping Calm

March 30, 2012

In my drafts folder I have nearly a dozen half-written blogs, but I’m going to let this one cut in line because its subject is simple, beautiful, and calming. Which is perfect for jump-starting the blog again.

This is a lovely three-minute film about the story behind the “Keep Calm and Carry On” poster created by the British Ministry of Information during WWII. Though its original graphic artist/copywriter from is unknown, the poster has lived on. A quick browse through Pinterest will lead to countless modified versions of the poster for every hobby, profession, vice, and pop culture icon—including Yoda, Harry Potter, and Taylor Swift. But I think there’s no question that the thought and design of the original poster is both timeless and reassuring. (And doesn’t that bookstore look like the coolest place on earth??)

Happy Friday!
